COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by coronavirus. This virus was first detected in the city of Wuhan, China, in December 2019. Now it has been spread quickly around the world. The virus spread to Bangladesh within 69 days of its detection. On 8 March 2020, it was confirmed to have spread in this country.
People’s behavior in public places and in public transport:
During the lockdown, with a high risk of covid-19, some
people go to their workplace to earn their bread and butter. Other people go
outside showing one or another excuse. As most of the people are poor, they
have to go outside in searching daily needs. The government administration and
the law enforcement agencies are in the field to make the people aware.
But the people are loitering showing them their thumbs.
Public transport was made to take one passenger in every 2 seats. But the
reality is that the people do not follow the provision in public transports and
in public places as well.
It’s because of the density of our population and the
unawareness of our people about the deadly coronavirus and so they use public
transports, as usual.
Social distance during the lockdown:
Due to Covid-19, people should not go outside and it is
prohibited during the lockdown. But if there is no other alternative of going
out in public, it is important to stay at least 6 feet away from other people
and wear a mask to slow the spread of Covid-19. Following proper guidelines, it
is easier said than done because of various socio-economic aspects, people go
out randomly without maintaining social distance.
People’s behavior while moving from one place to another
during festivals:
Nero fiddles while Rome burns’ is a wise saying and it is
true for our country as it is still continuing the celebration of different
festivals during the Covid-19 threat. Though on a limited scale, different
religious festivals like Eid, Durga Puja, and social festivals like Wedding
ceremonies, Birthday parties, etc are celebrated. During festivals, they are
moving from one place to another with their whole family without maintaining
social distance. They engage in different behaviors like singing, dancing, shouting, etc not maintaining physical distance or not wearing masks.
Why they do that:
It is not easy to find out the reason why they do that. One
common reason is that the people of Bangladesh are naturally emotional. They
cannot avoid these festivals as they want to interact with their near and dear
ones. They also like to pass some of their time, in merriments though there is
a high risk of spreading Covid-19
The impact of such behavior:
The people who contain coronavirus cough, sneeze, speak, sing
or breathe and throw small droplets through their nose or mouth which are
spread to other people in front of them. They may be infected with Covid-19 and
there will create a chain to spread the deadly coronavirus among the people
gathered there. The best way not to be infected is to stay home and not to go
where there is a crowd.
What I could do as a responsible:
Firstly I can stay at home. I can make people aware same as
me. I can make them understand not to go to public placemaking gatherings or
not to go in-crowd. We should not celebrate any festival during the Covid-19
pandemic and avoid arranging family celebrations.
While going outside, everyone should wear a mask and maintain
social distance. We should wash our hands frequently, avoid touching our face,
eyes, and mouth. I can request the people around me to avoid public transport. We
should obey the directives announced by the government during the lockdown.
