Top 10 Trips to search anything in google

Many people will say 'Google search' instead of 'search the web'. The reason is clear. Google has become synonymous with searching for information on the web. About 90% of the information is searched online by Google. However, the number of websites is not less. If the user wants, he can extract specific information from them by applying some techniques. Here are 10 strategies.

1. The way you write, the way the information will show

The way Google searches for information is that if you search for something, it will show that word or phrase, it will show any information that is related to it. But if you want exactly those words, the way you write them, you need to put double quotation marks on either side of the search term or information search words. For example, if you want Google search results to show exactly the websites that say 'I read books', then you have to search like this, 'I read books'.

2. Get information from specific websites

Suppose you know which website has the information you are looking for. But can't find it now. In that case you have to enter the web address along with the search term. For example, if you want to see what computer advice is available on Prothom Alo website, type the search term 'computer advice site:w3schools.com'.

3. More websites of the same type

Again, if you know the address of a website that has a lot of useful information. Want to know if such information can be obtained from any other website. Then he has to add ‘related:’ before the web address. Want more educational content like Khan Academy. Then type ‘related: w3.org’ as a Google search term.

4. Files of a certain format

Google not only webpages, but also files of a certain format can be searched. However, the file must be attached to a website. You may want a financial report of a particular financial year of an organization as a PDF file. Then you can add the name of the organization and search for ‘... Annual Report 2017 filetype: pdf’.

5. If you do not remember the whole sentence

Suppose you can't remember a proverb, a very common quote or the whole name of a movie. But remember some words before or after. Then you can search for words that you can't remember by adding asterisk (*) in that place. The result will show the whole sentence. For example, you don't remember the words "all roads lead to Rome" and "Rome". Then type in Google ‘all * leads to *’.

6. If in doubt about any information

Maybe you want to know something about Cricket World Cup. However, I do not know whether it is 2015 or 2011 World Cup. When searching on Google, type OR in capital letters between the two years as a search term. The lowercase ‘or’ will become part of the search term. Such as ‘cricket world cup 2011 OR 2015’.

7. If there is more than one type of information with the same name

The advantage of searching for information on Google is that its algorithm is so advanced that it presents the information you need. However, sometimes it may show additional information. Like you want to know about Steve Jobs. He is the late co-founder of Apple Inc., a US technology product maker. Again there are books about him with the same name, there are movies. There has been another organization with the same name. You want your search results to not contain information about the book, but about the person Steve Jobs and the movie. Then put a minus sign before the book and a plus sign before the movie. Write ‘Steve Jobs -book + movie’ like this.

8. Timely information retrieval techniques

One problem with searching for information on Google is that through search engine optimization, some websites may show up earlier in search results. It doesn't matter if the website was created early or recent. Google has a chance to get the latest information. When something is searched, there is a button called Tools along with other options on the search results page. If you click on Tools, any time means change the information option of any time to last one hour, one day, one week, one month or one year. If you want to see the information between the two specific dates, click on the Custom range to put the date in the From and To cell. Then the web pages written during that time will show.

9. Go directly to the website

The Google homepage has a Google search button as well as a button called I’m Feeling Lucky. If you type something and press the button, Google will take you directly to the first website in the search results. If you are sure that the website you are looking for is the first one you are looking for then you can press the button. For example, typing ‘prothom alo’ on Google and pressing the ‘Feeling Lucky’ button, you will see the website of Prothom Alo directly.

10. Get information about pictures

In addition to searching for information, you can search for pictures, videos, news, maps, books on Google. Among these, especially Google image search is very useful. If you want, you can search for more similar images by uploading images to Google or with image links. To do this, go to Google Image (images.google.com or lens.google.com) from the computer and click on the camera shutter icon on the right side of the search bar. Now either paste the image link or upload the image from the computer by clicking on the 'Upload an Image' button.
